Maria G. Mantis

Maria G. Mantis ST JOHN, IN- 82, passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2019 surrounded by her
loving family.
Maria was born on September 17, 1937 in Victoria, Tamaulipas, Mexico. She is survived by her beloved
husband of 61 years, John, and her children, Dr. Dino Mantis, Nick (Julie) Mantis, and Dora Mantis (Erik
Watland). Her treasured grandchildren, all of whom she loved more than life itself, Jon, Marianna,
Theodore, Alexander and Eleni. She is also survived by her brother, Dr. Juan Manuel Silva (Annabelle
Silva) and many loving nieces and nephews.
Maria is preceded in death by her parents Maria Guadalupe Treviño Rios, Antolin Silva Camacho, and
her sister, Idalia Romana (Mona) Silva Treviño and daughter in law Dr. Tina Mantis.
Maria came to the United States from Monterrey, Mexico in 1956 and met the love her life, John. She
embraced the Greek Orthodox culture. She was a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church in
Schererville, IN. She was an active member of St. George Philoptochos and enjoyed volunteering her
time at Greek Fest every year.
Maria worked at Youngstown/J&L/LTV Steel as a switchboard operator and she was an owner of
Marciano’s Pizza in St. John, IN and Mantis Dentistry.
She enjoyed cooking, traveling, watching cowboy movies and cartoons and even the Chicago Bears. But
most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family and her friends who she loved with all her heart.
She loved life and lived life to its fullest. Maria ALWAYS had a smile on her face!
Visitation will be held Monday, December 30, 2019 from 4 pm until 8 pm at the Lincoln Ridge Funeral
Home (7607 W Lincoln Hwy, Crown Point, IN) with a Trisagion service being held at 5 pm.
The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 31, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at St George Greek
Orthodox Church (528 W 77th Ave, Schererville, IN). Interment to follow at Chapel Lawn Cemetery in
Schererville, IN.
