Milos Marijan

Milos Marijan, age 86, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 2, 2025. He was born on March 5, 1938, in the small town of Otočac, in the former Yugoslavia, to parents Anka (Grozdanic) and Dusan Marijan. Milos was a devoted husband, a dedicated father, an adoring grandfather, and a proud great-grandfather whose legacy of love will forever resonate within his family. In 1944, Milos and his mother fled Yugoslavia, enduring the hardships of life in refugee camps across Slovenia, Austria, Italy, and Germany, before finally finding a new home in the United States in 1950. They settled in Alton, Illinois, where Milos would attend the Illinois School for the Deaf in Jacksonville. It was there that he met the love of his life and his best friend, Marilyn Nelson. They were married in 1959 at St. Archangel Michael Serbian Orthodox Church and made their home on the Southeast side of Chicago. Milos was retired from the Chicago Police Department Data Center. He was a proud member of the U.S. soccer team at the 1965 Deaf Olympics—a remarkable experience that he cherished deeply. Despite the challenges he faced throughout his life, Milos had an innate ability to bring joy to those around him. He had a keen sense of humor and his captivating storytelling often left listeners in tears of laughter. Milos was a kind and loving man and treasured moments spent with family. He was a staple at his grandchildren’s sporting events, where his enthusiastic presence was felt by all. Whether kicking a soccer ball or sharing tricks of the game, he infused each moment with love and encouragement. An avid Chicago sports fan, Milos never missed watching a Bears or White Sox game, and he delighted in the excitement of a good soccer match. He also enjoyed cycling along the lakefront, often taking long rides from his East Side neighborhood to Sheridan Road. Milos and Marilyn held their deaf community close to their hearts, finding joy and camaraderie. Milos leaves behind his three sons: Dusan Marijan (Nancy), Milan Marijan, and Dane Marijan (Dusanka), as well as his beloved grandchildren: Alex Marijan (Liz), Katie Rouse (Ben), Nick Marijan, Tara, and Aaron, and his adored great-grandson, Charles Rouse. The family will carry forward the love and lessons imparted by Milos and forever hold him in their hearts, missing him deeply. Visitation is scheduled for Saturday, February 8, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Monastery, 32377 N. Milwaukee Ave., Libertyville, IL, with services to follow at 10:30 a.m. Burial will take place immediately afterward. https://stsavamonastery.org In
