Djuro Vukovich

Djuro Vukovich passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 5, 2025. Born on April 24, 1926, in Bosansko Grahovo in the former Yugoslavia to parents Marko and Deva Vukovich. He was a loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Djuro was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Christina (McKay) Vukovich, in 2017, and his five sisters, including Sava and Zorka, who played a significant role in his upbringing.  He is survived by his three children George (Monique) Vukovich, Marko (Claire) Vukovich, and Anna (Michael) Mlachak, as well as his grandchildren Katherine, Christina, Ellyn, Andrew, Grace, and Anna, and his great-grandson Caleb. Djuro, a proud Chetnik who served his homeland during the struggle against communism, spent time in refugee camps in Italy and Germany before settling in England. There, he was reunited with his beloved brother (cousin) Stevo Vukovic and met his loving wife, Christina. In 1959, Djuro and his family immigrated to the United States. Djuro was an employee of Youngstown Steel for over 30 years. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, January 10, followed directly by funeral services at 10:00 a.m. The services will take place at St. George Serbian Orthodox Church, located at 905 E Joliet St., Schererville, IN. Djuro will be laid to rest at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville, IN.. Memory eternal. Vječna pamjat.
