Uros Nenadic

Uros Nenadic of Schererville, age 96, passed away on December 2, 2021.  He is survived by his loving wife Jovanka “Joka” (Katic), married almost 75 years;  son Nick;  daughter Sylvia (Michael) Ivetich;  proud grandfather of Misha and Stevan Ivetich.  Preceded in death by parents Niko and Sava;  brothers Nikola and Mladen;  sisters Bosa and Stana;  all of Yugoslavia.

Born in Grkovci, Bosnia in 1925, Uros was a veteran of the conflicts in Yugoslavia during the Second World War;  serving under local commanders in Bosnia and Dalmatia attached to the Royalist Forces of General Draza Mihajlovich.  A surviver of post-war hardships in displaced persons camps in Europe, Uros emigrated to the USA in 1951 on the USNS General Harry Taylor, working in the steward department during the 13 day voyage in rough seas.  He found his way to East Chicago with his wife and young daughter and was employed by the Inland Steel Company;  retiring as a mechanical technician after almost 40 years of service.  Uros was a lifelong member and current President of the Association of Serbian Combatants of the Royal Yugoslav Army;  East Chicago Chapter.  In 2009, Uros took great pride in realizing the erection of a statue commemorating General Draza Mihajlovich on the grounds of the New Gracanica Serbian Orthodox Monastery in Third Lake, IL.

Uros was a member of St. George Serbian Orthodox Church in East Chicago since 1951.  Private services and burial at the St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Monastery in Libertyville, IL.

Uros will be remembered as a hard-working, loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather to all who knew him.  he loved his culture and its traditions, hoping always they would be passed to the next generation.  He will be dearly missed by all;  forever “Dido” to his grandchildren.  Vjecnaja Pamjat;  may your memory be eternal.
