Nicholas (Nick) C. Ranich

Nicholas (Nick) C. Ranich, 87, of Munster, IN passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones on May 9, 2024. Nick was born in the harbor section of East Chicago, IN on December 23, 1936, to Charles and Sally (Ralich) Ranich.

Nick is survived by his loving wife, Ruth; beloved children Nichole Ranich, Chuck (Dana) Ranich, and Erin (Randy) Tipton; cherished grandchildren Joshua, Alana, Elina, and Ava. Also, dear family members: sisters-in-law: Diane (late Joseph) Zych; Dr. Marion (Dennis) Hoyda; and brother-in-law, Danilo (late Helen) Marich, as well as his nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, George, numerous aunts, uncles, kumovi, and friends.

Nick retired from the School City of East Chicago, after more than 40 years of dedicated service. He received a double Masters Degree and graduated, with honors, from Indiana University and immediately began teaching. Nick then began his role as Vice Principal of East Chicago Roosevelt High School, Principal at East Chicago Washington High School, Head Director of the De La Garza Career Center, as well as Head Administrator of Social Studies and English for the city. He loved football, golfing, opera, and reciting poetry, by memory. He was selfless in assisting others in furthering their education and careers. Nick and his family were devoted, founding members of St. George Serbian Orthodox Church, in Indiana Harbor, as well as the Kornelije Stankovich choir. Nick will truly be missed, and his memory will remain eternal; “Vjecnaja Pamjat”.☦️

Private Funeral Service will take place on Saturday, May 18, 2024 at the St. George Serbian Orthodox Church in East Chicago, IN at 10:00 A.M. Family is invited to visit with Nick’s immediate family, on Saturday at 9:30am, until the time of service. At rest, Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville, IN.
