Milan Kostur, age 86 passed away on October 13, 2021 in his Crown Point home. He was born January 5, 1935 in Civlanje, Vrlika in the former Yugoslavia. On January 8, 1956 Milan married the love of his life, Anica and shortly after welcomed two sons. Milan immigrated to the United States in 1967 and dedicated himself to a life of hard work and carried a deep responsibility to provide for his family. Milan is survived by his loving sons Milos (Stana) Kostur and Rajko (Vesna) Kostur. Six cherished grandchildren Jovan, Kristina, Milan, Nina, Aleksa, and Nikolet; also brother Petar (Mira) Kostur of Jacksonville, Florida. Numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand nephews, Kumovi, dear friends and other extended family in Canada, Serbia, England and the The States. Milan is preceded in death by his beloved wife Anica Kostur, parents Milos (Maria) Kostur, and sister Jelena (Milan) Bilic.
Funeral service will be held on Monday October 18, 2021 at St. Elijah Church in Merrillville, IN. Internment in Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville. Family and friends are invited to visit Milan’s family at 9am until time of service at 10am.
Milan was a lifelong member of St. Elijah Church. He retired as a welder from Blaw Knox and Thrall Car. Born into the Dinara mountains, he carried with him traditional practices of curing smoked meats and making wine. He told stories of the “old country”, of happy times despite the hard work. He took great pride in his family, undeterred in his pursuits so they could have a better life. Milan leaves behind family, Kumovi and friends with many loving memories.
