Mary Magdalene (Ortiz) Lopez

Mary Magdalene (Ortiz) Lopez, a beloved daughter, sister, wife, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother, has been called to the kingdom of God on Good Friday, April 15th, 2022 at the age of 82.  Mary was born one of 15 children in East Chicago, Indiana on July 22, 1939 to Miguel and Petra (Juarez) Ortiz. She was a proud Alumna of Bishop Noll Catholic High School (bow your heads). Proud of her Mexican heritage, Mary fed her large family some of the best food this area has ever seen. “There’s nothing to it,” Mary would say.  She dedicated her life to her friends and family but above all to God. She was very active in the church and was an avid volunteer for St. Michaels Parish. Her energy, cooking, and unconditional love will be missed by many.  On November 30, 1957, she married the love of her life, Anthony Lopez. Tony and Mary’s love blossomed and their legacy will live on through the several generations of their loving family. Mary is survived by her devoted husband, Anthony Lopez. She was a loving mother to Anthony Jr. (Carmen) Lopez, the late Judith Lopez, Susan (the late Richard) Linz, and Linda (Douglas) Keck; grandmother to Aaron Lopez, Bryan (Elizabeth) Lopez, Amanda (Michael) Gordon, Richard (Nicolette Hahn) Linz II, Emily (Nicholas Davis) Linz, and Joseph (Kelly Kislowski) Keck; and great-grandmother to Andrew Lopez.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mary’s name to The Legacy Foundation, 370 E. 84th Drive #100, Merrillville, IN 46410. This fund will be established for the purpose of benefiting Alzheimer’s research and charities.  Visitation will be on Thursday, April 21st from 5:00-8:00 PM at Lincoln Ridge Funeral Home (7607 West Lincoln Highway, Crown Point, IN 46307). A funeral service is scheduled for Friday, April 22nd at 10:30 AM, at St. Michaels Parish (1 West Wilhelm Street, Schererville, IN 46375).
