Marianne Flitar Woods

Marianne Flitar Woods was born August 5th, 1932 in East Chicago and passed away on February 10th, 2025 at the age of 92.  She spent the first several years of her life in an orphanage while her parents were hospitalized with tuberculosis. Her only brother Sam was born 9 years later. She married her husband, James Woods when he was 23 and she was 21, and they had five children; Kathy, Patricia, Jim, John and Jack. They raised their children in the home they built together in Crown Point, Indiana. She participated with her children’s schools and led Girl Scouts. She was involved with her church working as a secretary, teaching Bible studies, and serving on the board. Marianne loved going on adventures and taking trips. She went on several cross country trips with friends in her early eighties. She and her husband spent several years as snowbirds in Florida. When her husband received his cancer diagnosis, she took care of him until his passing in 2006. 

She is preceded in death by her parents Samuel Flitar and Mary Marcu Flitar, her husband James Woods, and one grandson Sean Woods, and is survived by her five children, 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She was dearly loved by her family and her friends. Known for telling jokes, she always kept a positive attitude and perspective, and made friends wherever she went. When things were tough, she would often sing the words to “What a Friend We Have in Jesus.” She relied on the Lord and prayer every single day for strength. She was dearly loved by her family and friends. 

Visitation will be held on February 15th at Lincoln Ridge Funeral Home in Crown Point from 12:00-1:00 PM followed by a service. She will be laid to rest alongside her husband in Rainsville, IN.
