John D. Hora

John D.Hora of Schererville, Indiana age 93, went home to our Lord on November 2, 2024. Born to Demeter and Aurelia “Irene” (Tatu) Hora on December 28, 1930. He grew up on the Harbor side of East Chicago, Indiana. Graduated from Washington High School Class of 1948.  Indiana University Class of 1955 were he earned a degree in Math and Chemical Science. Married the love of his life Eleanor (Strezo) on October 11,1958 of 38 years who will be waiting for John after 28 years apart. John grew up with a brother Donald and two sisters Dorothy (Pavlovich) and Aurelia (Kirincic).

John was a loving and generous Uncle and Great-Uncle to many nieces, nephews.   A good kind friend to all that new him. John was an avid Indiana University basketball fan.  He also was a master wood worker lovingly crafting pieces with Eleanor in their basement home gifting that cherished piece to family or friend. Their dog Spooker, Freddie One or Freddie Two by their side. John was proud of being a 4th Degree Knight and honorably served as Past Grand Knight and Past Treasurer of the Knights of Columbus Council in Griffith 3631 and Hammond 4933.  John was instrumental in funding the original program for those with intellectual developmental disabilities in the Diocese of Gary that was coordinated by John’s childhood friend Father Dennis Blaney, President of the Share Foundation in 1982 that started the Tootsie Roll Fund Raiser. John was strong in his Catholic faith after converting to marry Eleanor.  Through generous contributions to the church’s building fund, volunteering at functions or lovingly landscaping the church cemetery grounds where they both will lay. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 11, 2024 at Lincoln Ridge Funeral Home in Schererville from 4:00 to 7:00. The Knights of Columbus Griffith Council will have a prayer service at 6:30.  Funeral mass on Tuesday, November 12, 2024 will be at St. Michael’s the Archangel Church in Schereville at 10:30 with burial in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations to Johns charities would be appreciated.  The Share Foundation, St. Jude Childrens Hospital, Tunnel to Towers
