Joan Rae Vyner 1933–2026
Joan Rae Vyner (née Rosenbach) passed away peacefully on April 1, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Born in 1933 to Harold and Madeline (Frankowski) Rosenbach, Joan grew up in South Chicago, where she developed a lifelong devotion to the White Sox. Her connection to the team ran deep—she even babysat for several Sox players’ families during her younger years. A cheerleader at Bowen High School, Joan carried that spirited energy throughout her life, enjoying boating and roller-skating adventures with family and friends. In her later years, she found joy in the pages of James Patterson novels, savoring each new story.
Joan devoted 32 years to Jewel Food Store, balancing her l career with raising her family before retiring. Her dedication to both work and family exemplified the strength and commitment that defined her character.
She is survived by her daughters Janice (Timothy) Wiening, Judi (Ron) Locke, and Dione (Mike) Durham; stepchildren Teresa Vyner-Patton and Phillip (Lisa) Vyner; 19 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and her longtime best friend, Dolores Pettigrew. Joan’s legacy lives on in the hearts of her large, loving family and all who knew her warm spirit.
Services will be held at the Lincoln Ridge Funeral Home located at 7607 W. Lincoln Hwy. Crown Point, Indiana 46307 Monday, April 13, 2026 from 12:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. The burial will follow the service and will take place at Chaple Lawn Cemetery 8178 S Cline Ave, Crown Point Indiana 46307.
