George Manous “GMan”

George Manous, 93 of Munster, Indiana passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Sunday, August 18, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Zaharoula Manousopoulos, brother Dean Manous, sister-in-law Irene Manous and sister Sophie Gianopulos. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife Donnajean Manous (Slack), loving and adoring daughters Beckie (Vince) Bacino and Susie Manous, sister-in-law Piper Huston and her husband John, niece Laura Carpenter (Manous), and special nephew Garry Manous and his wife Amanda along with their three loving children Leah, Dino and George who called him Papou.
George who was affectionately known as “GMAN” by all of his friends was a graduate of East Chicago Washington High School where he played basketball and became a member of the East Chicago Sports Hall of Fame.  George also attended Indiana University, was a veteran of the United States Army, and a lifetime member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Schererville, Indiana. George retired as the Director of Human Resources for the School City of East Chicago but also served as a math teacher and attendance officer for many years. George coached basketball in the East Chicago School System’s elementary and middle schools which served as a feeder to East Chicago Washington’s Hall of Fame Coach Johnnie Baratto.  He was a longtime member of the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) and a member of the National Hellenic Invitational Basketball Tournament (NHIBT) Hall of Fame. George’s dearest friends were Frank Kollintzas, Teddy Kounelis and Gary McCracken.  He also had many close friends and family members who live in Greece.  George was a mild mannered, respectful man who was liked by everyone.  
Funeral service will be on Friday, August 23, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 528 W. 77th Ave., Schererville, Indiana.  Visitation will be on August 22, 2024 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Lincoln Ridge Funeral Home, 7607 W. Lincoln Highway (US 30), Schererville, Indiana. At rest, Ridgelawn Cemetery Gary, Indiana.
