Dusan Manojlovic, 88, passed away on January 21, 2024. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Marija; children Snezana (Goran) Pavlic and George (Natalija) Manojlovic; grandchildren Sofia, Isidora, Marija, Luka, Milan and Emilija; sister-in-law Slavka Manojlovic; cousin Petar Manojlovic of Hamilton, Ontario; Kum Rajko Jovanovich; numerous nieces and nephews, Kumovi and friends. He was preceded in death by his brothers Jovan, Milan, Sava, Ilija, and his sister Andja.
Dusan was born in 1935 in what was then the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. Despite enduring the ordeals of WW II as a small child, and many years of adversity and hardship, he maintained a positive and cheerful outlook on life, and a very strong will. In the late 1960’s, he joined his brothers in the United States and began working at US Steel Gary Works, from which he retired after 30 years. He married Marija, who was from the same village in Dalmatia, and together they created the family that was the center of their lives. Dusan was the quintessential immigrant father who worked hard and sacrificed for the advantage and future of his children and grandchildren. His unconditional love and pride for his grandchildren was truly evident with his ability to always make them laugh. Dusan was a proud member of St. Elijah Serbian Orthodox Cathedral, and he held a deep love for his church and his Serbian heritage. He was glad to help out the church in any capacity, and he loved spending time at the church picnic grounds, playing bocce ball with his friends.
Dusan had a happy disposition, and loved to laugh and joke with everyone. He will be deeply missed. Funeral Service for Dusan will take place on Thursday, January 25, 2024 directly at the St. Elijah Serbian Orthodox Church Merrillville at 10:00 A.M. Friends are invited to visit with Dusan’s family on Thursday at Church from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service. At rest, Calumet Park Cemetery.
