Concetta Punos

Concetta Punos, 95, of Peotone, Illinois, longtime resident of East Chicago, Indiana, passed away on January 13th, 2025 surrounded by her loving family. Concetta was born on December 31st, 1929 in Bellizzi Salerno in Italy, the daughter of Carmine and Filomena Mazzocca. Concetta was a proud, loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Concetta was preceded in death by her husband, Jovan, and her siblings Palmeri, Rolando, Lilina, Umberto, and Maria. She is survived by her four children Marko (Susan) Punos, Millie (Mitch) Milicevic, Maria Punos, and Alex (Susie) Punos, as well as her grandchildren Kristen (Ryan), Joshua, Kristopher (Luna), Nicolena (Taylor), and Karen, and her great-grandchildren Emily, Nevaeh, and Jaime, nephews Marko and Rajko Radosavljevic, as well as many relatives in Italy, including her sisters Eva and Leonora. Concetta immigrated to the United States in 1956 and lived in East Chicago, Indiana where she worked at Inland Steel until her retirement. Concetta’s home was one of the things she was most proud of in her life, often found working in her yard or in her garden, where she planted beautiful, vibrant flowers every year. Concetta was a great friend and neighbor to all who knew her, always welcoming people with open arms and will be greatly missed by all. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 17, followed directly by funeral services at 11:00 a.m. The services will take place at St. George Serbian Orthodox Church, located at 905 E Joliet St., Schererville, IN. Following service, the procession will travel to Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville, IN for graveside burial. Luncheon to follow at The Halls of St. George.
