Arthur Dale Gillespie




Arthur Dale Gillespie, 91, of St. John, IN, passed away peacefully at home on December 26, 2024.  He is survived by his loving wife Joan.  He was born in Gary, IN, to Joseph Arthur and Muriel Catherine Gillespie.  Following graduation from Hammond Technical High School Class of 1953, he served in the U.S. Army and was a Korean War Veteran having been stationed in Chinon, France. 

After serving in the U.S. Army, he worked for NIPSCO as an electrician until his retirement.  One of his favorite hobbies was playing golf in addition to repairing and refinishing golf clubs, which he ultimately turned into a business.  Finding he had too much time on his hands, he went back to work at Boender Electric.

His pride and joy were his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Nothing gave him greater pleasure than watching them in their various activities.  He was an avidNotre Dame and Cubs fan.  Arthur loved playing cards and doing word searches. 

In addition to his wife Joan, he is survived by three daughters Susan (David) Schweitzer, Sharon Cornwell, Shelley (Garett) Glatt, and son-in-law Ronald Pyle.  His daughter Sandra Pyle preceded him in death.  He is also survived by grandchildren Jeffrey (Kelsey) Schweitzer, Ryan Schweitzer, Randi (Whitney)
Neukam, Christopher (Rachel) Pyle, Samantha (Arjay) Quizon, Molly (Adam) Waldier, Julie Beth Gillespie, MD, Aaron (Alissa) Glatt, and Cory Glatt (financé Trevor Hill).  His 15 great-grandchildren. Eli Webb, Preslee Neukam, Elayna Webb, Bentley Neukam, Adelaide Schweitzer, Aria Webb, Matthew Schweitzer, Harvey Quizon, Louis Waldier, Jolie Neukam, Jack Schweitzer, Stevie Pyle, Holden Pyle, Bodhi Waldier, and Adleigh Glatt.

Services will be held on Friday, January 3 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church at 1 W Wilhelm Street, Schererville, IN.  Visitation will be held at 9:30 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at 10:30a.m.  Internment will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Arthur’s name to Saint Jude
Children’s Research Hospital.  A special
thank you to Providence Hospice for the wonderful care they provided.
