Archontia Karagianidis, age 88 of Schererville, Indiana passed away Sunday March 10,2024. Born on January 30, 1936 to Ioannis and Paraskevi Mouratides in Pentavriso, Kastoria, Greece. She was one of 9 children living their childhood years during World War II. Archontia married her beloved husband Stavros on February 25, 1955. They built a home in Katerini, Greece but heard of better opportunities in the USA so they immigrated to East Chicago where they lived for several years before settling in Schererville. She worked as a cafeteria aide at Grimmer Middle School but retired to care for her grandchildren. Archontia was a devoted Orthodox Christian and a member of Saint George Orthodox Church in Schererville. She enjoyed making traditional Greek dishes, spending time with her family, and tending to her garden. Archontia’s home was always open for family and friends to stop by and visit.
Archontia is survived by her son Kyriakos Karagianidis and daughter Voula Phillips, both of Schererville. Her three grandchildren Archontoula (Derek) Vaupel, Irene ( Antonios) Yiatras, and Steve (Ally) Phillips. She was blessed with six great grandchildren who were the loves of her life: Paraskevas, Kyriakos, Xristianos, Penelope, Evanthia, and Paraskevi. Three surviving siblings in Greece, many adoring nieces and nephews, Godchildren, and Koumbari. She is preceded in death by her husband Stavros, daughter Georgia, parents, siblings, brothers in law, and sisters in law, and beloved niece Parey.
Funeral Service will take place Friday, March 15, 2024 directly at the St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Schererville at 10:00 A.M. Friends are invited to visit with Archontia’s family on Friday at Church, from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service. At rest, Chapel Lawn Cemetery.
