Anthony “Tony” Lopez was called to the kingdom of God on December 31st, 2022, at the age of 83. Tony was fiercely loyal and generous, with an unwavering love for his family and friends. Tony was a beloved son, brother, husband, father, papa, and great-papa. Tony was one of five children and born to Mariano and Jesus Maria (Espinosa) Lopez on February 2nd, 1939 in East Chicago, Indiana. Tony married the love of his life, Mary (Ortiz) Lopez on November 30th, 1957. Tony and Mary celebrated 63 beautiful years together building a loving family that made them beam with pride. Tony worked diligently to provide for and dedicated his life to family, instilling the strong foundation on which he and Mary raised their children and grandchildren. Tony came from humble beginnings and was proud of his Mexican heritage. He shared his pride and love for Mexican culture by passing on generations of traditions, memories, and stories. Tony leaves behind an everlasting family legacy that will carry on through generations. Although Tony’s passing leaves a profound sense of loss on those he loved, the memories and impacts he made will live in our hearts forever. As Tony would say to Mary, “Not too bad for two little kids from the Harbor.”
Tony is preceded in death by his parents, siblings, daughter Judith Lopez, and the love of his life and wife of 63 years, Mary (Ortiz) Lopez. Tony is survived by his loving children Anthony Jr. (Carmen) Lopez, Susan (late Richard) Linz, Linda (Douglas) Keck; grandchildren Aaron Lopez, Bryan (Elizabeth) Lopez, Amanda (Michael) Gordon, Richard (Nicolette Hahn) Linz II, Emily (Nicholas Davis) Linz, and Joseph (Kelly Kislowski) Keck; and great-grandson Andrew Lopez.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 4th, from 4:00-7:00 PM, at Lincoln Ridge Funeral Home (7607 West Lincoln Highway, Crown Point, IN 46307). A funeral service is scheduled for Thursday, January 5th, at 10:30 AM, at St. Michael’s Parish (1 West Wilhelm Street, Schererville, IN 46375).
