Anna Stavropoulos

Anna Stavropoulos, nee Psomiadis, age 76 of Crown Point, IN passed away on January 27, 2024, ten days prior to her 77th birthday after a difficult battle with Alzheimer’s.

She was the beloved wife of Gerasimos ‘Simo’ Stavropoulos for 60 years and Dear mother to Harry Starvropoulos of Crown Point, IN, Sophia (Matthew) Neumann of Scottsdale, AZ and Anatoli (Kostadinos) Kostouros of Cave Creek, AZ. Loving Yiayia to Panayiotis and Katerina Kostouros. Dear Sister to Niko (Maria) Psomiadis, Anastasia (Yianni) Antoniadis, Georgios (Despina) Psomiadis, Elefterios (Sofia) Psomiadis. She was the fun, loving, giving aunt to many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Pavlos and Despina Psomiadis and younger sister Georgia Psomiadis.

Anna was born in Pentavriso, Kastoria, Greece. She loved to sing and was quite the tomboy in her childhood, climbing trees and competing with the boys in her village.  She married Simo on November 23, 1963 in Pentavriso. Together, they emigrated to The United States with their son, Harry, in 1967 settling first in East Chicago, IN. Anna then had her two daughters, Sophia and Anatoli, and built her family and life in Hammond, IN. She retired from Albert Given Manufacturing.

Anna’s heart overflowed with boundless love, care and affection to her three children and two grandchildren. One of her greatest joys in life was becoming a yiayia. She was the heart of her family. She also acted as thea and yiayia to many other children who always gravitated to her when she entered a room.  Personally, Anna enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking Greek pastries and especially making tiropita. She loved to entertain and feed others. It was the way she showed her love.

Anna was devoted to her faith as a long-time member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Schererville, IN. She was a member of the St. George Philoptochos and volunteered for countless events.  Anna’s big personality, laughter, straight talk, and commitment to friends and family will be deeply missed.
