Adele Phyllis Wiening, age 92, of Hammond passed away peacefully on Saturday July 16th, 2022. Born on June 1st, 1930, she was a lifelong resident of Chicagoland. She began her life in Calumet City, and eventually settled in Hammond where she lived for the past 70 years. Adele attended primary Catholic School and graduated from T.F. North High School. She worked as nurses aid, and then a store attendant in the Purdue Calumet bookstore until she retired in the late 90’s. Adele was a lifelong Catholic and enjoyed attending Sunday mass at Our Lady of Perpetual Help church in Hammond, IN.
Adele was born into a large family of siblings, Alexander, Dorothy, Harriet, Eugene and Virginia. On September 15, 1949, at the age of 19, she married the love of her life Ervin Wiening upon his return from WWII. They grew their own family which included Timothy Wiening (Janice Childers), Catherine (Bobalik) Wiening and Chris Wiening. Her children gave her the gift of several grandchildren; Tricia (Wiening) Horvath, Nicole Wiening, Michael Wiening, Lisa (Gaskey) Cochran and Anthony Gaskey. She was doubly gifted 8 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband Ervin Wiening (2000), parents Mary Wasik (1967), and Chester Ciasko (1969), siblings Alexander Ciastko (2005), Dorothy Cyganoxicz (Ciastko) (1998), Harriet Magurany (Ciastko)(2002), Eugene Ciastko (2005), and granddaughter Nicole Wiening (2003). Her beautiful daughter, Catherine Bobalik (2022), also welcomed her home just a few days before.
Friends are invited to visit with Adele’s family on Thursday, August 11, 2022 at the Lincoln Ridge Funeral Home from 10:00 A.M. until 12:00 Noon. Memorial Service beginning at Noon. At Rest, St. John Cemetery Hammond, Indiana.
