Our beloved mother, Luise Baldin, 87, of Schererville, Indiana, passed away on August 18, 2023.

Luise was born to Frank and Bernadine Meier in Toledo, Ohio. After graduating from Central Catholic High School, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education at the University of St. Francis, Joliet, Illinois. She later received a Master’s in Education from Valparaiso University.

Her passion was teaching, and she worke for over 40 years as a second-grade teacher, first in the Hammond schools, then at Homan Elementary School, and retiring from Watson Elementary School.

In college, she met Tony Baldin, and after graduation they wed, and had four children: Antoinette, Kirk, Peggy, and Joel.

Luise was involved in many activities and groups to include Tri Kappa Sorority, League of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Association, Northwest Indiana Community Associates of the Art Institute of Chicago, Women’s Associates of the Northwest Indiana Symphony, PEO Sisterhood, University of St. Francis Alumni Board, and the John Purdue Club. She also enjoyed traveling with family and friends, reading, football, and watching Bravo.

She is predeceased by her husband, Tony; parents, Frank and Bernadine Meier; and sister, Rosemarie (late Gene) Mazur. She is survived by her children: Antoinette Baldin, Kirk (Debbie) Baldin, Peggy (Steve) Roberts and Joel (Casey) Baldin; six grandchildren: Matthew, Natalie, Luke, Elle, Mark, and Ava; siblings, Claretta Meier, Frank Meier, Marietta (Ron) Artz, and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 am on September 8, 2023 at Saint Michael Church, 1 W. Wilhelm Street in Schererville, Indiana. Visitation will be at 9:30 am prior to the mass. The family has requested that remembrances be made in the form of contributions to League of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Tribute Fund, 220 S. Michigan Avenue, 6th Floor, Chicago, Illinois 60604, or to University of St. Francis Advancement Department, 500 W. Wilcox Street, Joliet, Illinois 60435, or to the charity of your choice.
