Danica Gazibara, age 86, of Crown Point, IN died peacefully on February 4, 2026. Danica was born on June 6th, 1939, the 4th oldest of 9 siblings, in the village of Donji Skrad, in the Kordun region of Krajina, in what was then Yugoslavia, a land scarred by war and suffering. At 18 years old, she married Pavao, (Pajo) Gazibara. They were married for almost 59 years.
Danica came to Northwest Indiana in September of 1967 with her husband, Pajo and two small children with the sponsorship and assistance of her younger sister, Bogdanka and brother-in-law, Ljubomir Mihailovich, who courageously paved the way for a better live in America for all the siblings.
She is survived by her loving son, Milutin, (Tresa) Gazibara, daughter, Ruzica, (Rodney) Dobbins, five grandchildren, Pavao, (Ava) Gazibara, Ashley (Shaji) Moolgi, Nicole (Brian) Gessler, Ryan (Taylor) Dobbins and Daniella Gazibara along with four great grandchildren, Coco and Mirko Gazibara and Lincoln and Emma Dobbins plus many nieces, nephews, brothers, sisters and countless friends.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Pavao, her parents, Milka and Rade Koncalovic, brothers, Milic and Danilo Koncalovic along with her sister, Nevenka Cimesa and dear nephew, Milos Mihailovich.
Danica will be remembered for being the best wife, mother, and Baba (grandmother). She adored her family and would do anything for them. She also loved needlepoint, knitting, crocheting tablecloths and such. Her handiwork was on a professional level and sought after by many. She will also be remembered for her sense of humor, quit wit, and cleverness. She always wanted her family and friends gathered around her table. Whether to feed them (even when they weren’t hungry) or to slam her fist on table when playing a fierce game of Tablich (Serbian card game). She had a hard life in the beginning but never gave up and sacrificed for her family.
Funeral Service will be held on Friday, February 6th, 2026 at the St. George Serbian Orthodox Church Schererville at 10:00 A.M. Friends are invited to visit with Danica’s family at church from 9:00 A.M. until 10:00 A.M. Final resting place, Calumet Park Cemetery.
She will greatly be missed!
