Stana Romić

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of dearest Stana Romić (91) of Munster, IN, who passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 11, 2026.

Stana Romić was born on January 14, 1935 in Biovčino Selo (Dalmacija, Jugoslavija). She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Milan Romić, memory eternal.

She is survived by her loving children: son, Marko (Nada) Romić and daughter Ružica (Jovan+) Pamučar. Five grandchildren: Biljana (Tomas) Kvietkauskas, Gojko (Milisava) Pamučar, Branka Romić, Stana (Jonathon) Wilson, and Marija Romić. Five great grandchildren: Evalina and Tatijana Kvietkauskas, Natalija and Andelija Pamučar, and Sofia Bree Wilson.

As an adored wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, she will always be remembered for her jovial spirit, impeccable sense of style, and zest for life.

As a child, she endured through good and bad times in Morpolača, Dalmacija. She lived through World War II, escaping to Egypt by ship with other women and children. She always had a curiosity to learn. At the age of 19, she married the love of her life, Milan Romić, and raised their two children in Morpolača. Stana and Milan wanted to take a leap of faith to build a more prosperous life in America. Due to immigration laws, Milan immigrated to Chicago first in 1974. In 1977, Stana and her daughter followed, leaving behind her parents and two brothers.

She was never deterred by hard work. Her journey led her to many new work experiences ranging from Golden Shell Restaurant and a laundromat on the South Side; She worked at Carl Buddig for over 30 years where she made lifelong friendships. With her strong will and work ethic, she finally retired at the ripe age of 77.

She was like Mother Nature, as we’d often find her basking in the sun and tending to her garden. She took pride in making her house a home, sunny and always welcoming. Her many God-given gifts, included but were not limited to: her soulful traditional Serbian cooking like her famous uštipci and jota, crocheted masterpieces, and heartfelt poetry. Her warm hugs and wisdom had the power to heal any bad day.

With a song in her heart, Stana was always ready to celebrate! She felt most alive in the company of her family and friends, charming them with her captivating story-telling and wonderful sense of humor.

She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
