Ranko Ray Ivetić, age 67 of Schererville, Indiana passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Monday, May 4, 2026. Ranko was born on April 26, 1959, in Peulje, Bosansko Grahovo in the former Yugoslavia to parents Lazar and Dara (Ivanković) Ivetić. In November 1966, Ranko, along with his parents and sister Milena, immigrated to the United States to make a better life for their family and settled in Gary, Indiana by his grandparents Stojan and Marta Ivanković.
Ranko graduated from Merrillville High School in 1978 and continued his education at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. He graduated in 1982 with a bachelor’s degree in political science. Ranko retired from the Lake County Sheriff’s Department in 2014 with over twenty-five (25) years of service. After retiring, he was proud of owning his own successful roofing business R-N-M.
Ranko is survived by his loving wife of forty-one (41) years, Mioljka. His one and only, his son Ranko (Milena) Ivetić was his pride and joy, his everything, his world! His precious grandson Niko Ivetić. His loving mother Dara Ivetić. Sister Milena, niece Gabriela, and great-nephew Maksim. Sister Rada and family. Ujak Ratko (Andja) Ivanković and family. Tetka Milka Radjenovich and family. Tetka Stevanija (Milan) Balać and family. Ray leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, kumovi, prijatelji, and extended family throughout the United States, Bosna, Serbia, and England.
Ranko was a great husband, Tata, Deda, son, brother, uncle, kum, and friend who will be deeply missed. Truly one of a kind! His legacy will live on through his son Ranko and grandson Niko. He loved his family immensely. He was preceded in death by his father Lazar Ivetić, grandparents Jovan & Milica Ivetić and Stojan & Marta Ivanković. Ranko was a member of the St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church in Merrillville, Indiana.
