Dragomir (Dragan) (Danny) Acamovich, of East Chicago, IN, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, November 13th, 2025, at the age of 90.
Dragan is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Slavojka (Radlovic), sons Nikola and Mirko (Michelle), brothers David (†Milka) Acamovic and Bosko (Helen) Acamovich, sisters-in-law Draginja and Milena, nephews and nieces Jovica, Vera, Dusanka, David JR, and Dusan, as well as many cousins and friends in the United States, Serbia, and Bosnia.
Dragan was preceded in death by parents Jovo and Sava Acamovic, siblings Joka (Milos), Ilija, and Mirko, and nephew Jovo.
Born October 19, 1935, in selo Marinkovci, Bosankso Grahavo, in the former Jugoslavia. At the age of 10, Dragan, with his brother David, left for Zrenjanin to live with his Aunt DarinkaIn 1962, with little money and not knowing the language, he immigrated to the United States with his mother Sava, to East Chicago IN, to be re-united with his father Jovo, who he had not seen since he was a young boy. Dragan was soon followed by his other siblings.
Dragan was a proud member of St George Serbian Orthodox Church in East Chicago, IN. He cherished his long-time friendship with his Kumovi, Danilo Marich and family, and Momcilo Rankovich and family.
Dragan retired from Resco, formerly Harbison-Walker, or as he would call it, “The Brickyard” in Hammond, IN after 34 years. There he created a patent to improve efficiency in the production of specialized bricks used in the steel industry.
During that same time, he also owned and operated a tavern, Birds Lounge, in “The Harbor”, for over 40 years. A local legend, “Danny” was full of personality, generous with a smile, quick witted, and a good-hearted soul who helped many people throughout the years. If you had the pleasure of knowing “Danny” you were fortunate. He was truly one of a kind. He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered. May his memory be eternal.
Friends are invited to visit with Dragan’s family on Wednesday November 19th from 4pm-8pm at Lincoln Ridge Funeral Home (7607 W Lincoln Hwy, Schererville IN), with Pomen Prayer Service at 7pm. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, November 20th, 2025 at St Sava Serbian Orthodox Monastery (32377 N Milwaukee Ave, Libertyville, IL ). Visitation begins at 10:30am with the funeral service starting at 11am.
