Guadalupe “Lupe” Corpus Herrera

SCHERERVILLE, IN – Guadalupe “Lupe” Corpus Herrera, 89, of Schererville, IN passed away peacefully on Monday March 26, 2018. She was born January 11, 1929 in Detroit, MI to the late Santos Sr. and Victorina Corpus. She is survived by her children Phillip (Kim) Herrera, David (Lee) Herrera and Rosalie Papach; ten grandchildren, six great grandchildren, four siblings and numerous nieces, nephews. Lupe the eldest of nine, self-proclaimed grandmother to all. Preceded in death by her husband Joseph Herrera; son, Eugene Herrera; brother, Francisco Corpus; sisters, Hermina Rodriguez, Mary Nunez and Carmen Arcella. A devout Catholic, Lupe was a member of St. Michaels Catholic Church in Schererville, IN for 44 years. Lupe graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Elementary Education, and was employed by the School City of Gary for 27 years where she taught English to young children from all over the world. Lupe married the love of her life in 1950 and became a widow in 1960; completely devoted to her family, she enjoyed spending time with the ones she loved and who loved her. Lupe enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, watching telenovelas and even sports. Lupe was a kind and generous soul and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Visitation will be held on Monday April 2, 2018 from 4:00 p.m – 8:00 p.m. at LINCOLN RIDGE FUNERAL HOME, 7607 W. Lincoln Highway Schererville, IN 46375. Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Michaels Catholic Church, #1 E Wilhelm St., Schererville, IN 46375. Burial service to follow at St. John/St. Joseph Cemetery, 1547 167th St., Hammond, IN 46320.
