Vivienne Palaiologos age 66 of Munster, Indiana passed away on Monday, October 20. Born on September 22, 1959 to Gus and Katherine Palaiologos, Vivienne was always focused on higher learning, and had a particular love of foreign languages. She graduated from Munster High School in 1977, and went on to obtain her Masters and Doctoral degrees in education at Purdue University, where she focused on sociolinguistics and language loyalty among first-generation Greek Americans. Raised in a bilingual household, Vivienne learned Greek, and expanded her language studies to include Spanish, French, and German.
Vivienne taught at the high school level at Andrean High School and at Highland High School. She later worked as a visiting instructor at Purdue University Northwest. More recently, Vivienne was an ESL instructor for the Rosetta Stone Company. She enjoyed this job because it allowed her to converse with people from around the world during language sessions.
Vivienne was interested in foreign cultures and world affairs. She had an appreciation of art, fashion, and music. She was an avid fan of Chicago sports teams and Purdue University sports teams. She also had a great love for the family pets.
Vivienne is survived by her sister Elaine, along with relatives and friends. She is proceeded in death by her parents, Gus and Katherine. May her memory be eternal. Visitation and funeral service on Friday, October 24 directly at St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Schererville. Friends are invited to visit with Vivienne’s family at 9:00 AM until the time of the service. Private burial at Ridgelawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the St. George Greek Orthodox Church are appreciated.
